Charter Change

Every year, especially when elections is nearing, we always hear of PEOPLE blabbing about changing the constitution. I'm very sick of it now. Those who are in favor of it always think that it would be the answer to the problems of the country. On the other hand, those against it believe that it is just a decoy. The changing of the constitution would make Pres. Arroyo buy more time and be the prime minister. After so many years now having the highest position in the country, she still isn't satisfied?

What the country need is not change in laws, it is change in people. The beliefs and practices altogether of our leaders should be altered as soon as possible. They are the ones who are destroying the very foundation of the constitution. Implementation is also a key area to investigate in. No matter how well-written the laws are, if they are not executed properly, it will all be useless.

The system of government, whether presidential or parliamentary, is not the issue here. No one can tell what best suits the country unless tested right? How well do the officials pushing for Cha-Cha know it will work if in the first place, presidency didn't work? It will just be a cycle of embarrassment and disappointment. We cannot just always change something imprinted in society at once because it has stayed for quite decades now. We should first fix what we have and not make it worst through risky moves.
